JOHN KAIZAN NEPTUNE is acknowledged worldwide as one of the most gifted composers and performers of shakuhachi music. He is a licensed master of the Tozan Ryu. In 1980, John was given the "Outstanding Album of the Year" award by Japanese Ministry of Education -- the only non-Japanese ever to have received this honor. Almost 20 years later, it is great to record this album featuring the next generation, daughter Masako Watanabe. Many thanks to both generations for their wonderful performance and energy, and I look forward to the next project...hopefully sooner than 20 years from now!"

"While performing a solo meditation piece for shakuhachi at a concert I did for a retirement/nursing home in Japan, an old woman began to sing very loud and totally 'out'. I didn't know whether to stop or continue, but figured 'Oh well, a duet for Zen shakuhachi and crazy old woman.' It was actually quite interesting. After I finished playing the woman stopped singing, and when I asked the nurses what was going on they informed me that the woman who was singing had advanced Alztheimer's disease, and had not spoken or reacted to anything in more than three years!

I am constantly amazed by the power of music and feel fortunate to be participating in that energy, and decided to write a song about that. Daughter Kai makes here her recording debut here in "Moments of Magic", and she also did the cover art for the album."

A Note about Pricing of CDs Imported from Japan

The price of CDs manufactured and sold in Japan are significantly higher than recordings made and distributed here in the USA. The average price for Japanese CDs is ¥3150 or, at the current exchange US Dollar to Japanese Yen rate, significantly more expensive than the cost of most American CDs. Add to this the shipping cost involved in importing these recordings. For this reason, in the past, I have hesitated to carry a large selection of Japanese CDs. However, by request and popular demand, I have changed this policy, but please don't be shocked by the sticker prices. Some Japanese artists represented on this site have are graciously offering their music at a significant discount to accommodate the world shakuhachi community. I have also endeavored to keep pricing in line as much as possible.

Thank you John Kaizan Neptune for lowering the price of your CDs and DVDs.
